Some of my project requires a linux development environment, so I use vscode remote to use a remote linux server or a docker container as my development environment and it is pretty fast and you feel like a native development environment even if it is remote. I found the rustanalyser is pretty decent in terms of code completion, navigation and macro expansion. I bet intellij would be more polished, but I don't want to go through the process of switching again and adapting to a different environment one day if they decide to drop the support for rust with a premium solution, hence I decided to continue using vscode. They do have the premium subscription to intellij too, although it isn't required for rust development unless you want to use their debugger. Years passed and now, my current employer requires us to write code in both rust and go. It took some time to get used to the shortcuts and environment, but now I am comfortable in vscode. My then employer didn't have their premium subscription so I switched to atom and eventually to vscode. One fine day, the plugin development was stopped and intellij dropped its support on subsequent community versions in favour of their gogland ide, which was eventually renamed to goland and became their premium IDE for go. I used to develop go using intellij idea community edition with the community supported go plugin back in 20 and the experience was pretty good. I've used intellij, vscode and atom and I'd prefer to use vscode. Currently, VS Code is one of the best code editors around and the most-used editor for Rust development. It supports a lot of major languages, including Rust. I just wanted to share my view on this one year old post. Visual Studio Code is an open source and free-for-use project created by Microsoft and available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
